September 2012
Day Nine in my countdown to the end of my first year of blogging brings me to September. In September, I bought a set of macro tubes. Although I had been able to get pretty close to my subjects and crop, my lens wasn’t fast enough to give me the shallow depth of field and bokeh I had been looking for in my macro photos. I hoped the macro tubes would be a relatively cheap solution to this problem. To experiment with this new addition to my tool bag I went into the garden.
I have been following the work of Karen McRae over the last year. Her photographs are exquisite and she has a truly artistic approach to macro photography. I have Karen to thank for the inspiration behind the pictures I took that day. If you haven’t already done so, I would really recommend a visit to Karen’s website, draw and shoot.
The macro tubes worked just as I’d hoped..

And we just keep on learning. Lovely macro. I’m enjoying this look at the journey you’ve taken this past year.

Thank you so much Gunta. I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed this recap. It’s certainly been interesting for me going back and reviewing the pictures I’ve taken. Seeing where I’ve got things wrong but also where I’ve got things right. Just three months left and then it’s in with the new. That’s if this weather ever lets up. Constant mist and drizzle at the moment. Not terribly inspiring.
