Godrevy Lighthouse
Here’s another long exposure from my dawn shoot. This one was taken about five minutes after ‘Across the Bay to St Ives’ As you can see, in just five minutes, the light had changed considerably.
I wasn’t able to get the angle on the lighthouse I wanted, the track up onto the headland was closed but I’ll be back in the summer when it’ll be open..
50mm f/14 30 sec. ISO 100

You captured the living sky…beautiful…and so rich….

I love Godrevy, such a photogenic place. I’m privileged enough to live 10 minutes away.

How lovely. I live just outside Roche in mid-cornwall. Thankfully at 6 in the morning the A30 is lovely and clear and it’s a quick and easy drive. I’m gradually making my way down the north coast, interspersed with the odd trip to the south. Next time I’m hoping to stay in the area for a bit of breakfrast and explore the area a bit more.

Nice, I recommend Sunset Surf Cafe by Gwithian Beach if you’re in the area. Also, if you haven’t already, the coastal path between Sennen Cove and Land’s End has some amazing scenery. I look forward to seeing the rest of your trips.

Thank you Harry.

Love the colour contrasts and what amazing clouds!!
February 10, 2013 at 7:35 pm
Thank you Lisa. It’s quite a challenge working in near darkness but I found the experience very rewarding.

Thank you so much Dina. I’m sure you would enjoy Cornwall very much. I hope you too have a lovely weekend.

Beautiful early morning shot, Adrian. I look forward to the warmer weather sunrises, so that I don’t have to imagine how cold you must be.
February 9, 2013 at 1:55 pm
Thank you very much Sylvia. I had a dusk shoot yesterday. It was once more blowing a gale, it was 6°c and I was once more perched on an exposed headland. I had remembered my thermal long johns however, and a pair of fingerless gloves. That and my old motorcycle coat and I was as warm as toast. My ears on the other hand.. note to self, add woolly hat to kit bag..

Exciting view on the sea

Glad you like it Lou. Thanks!

This is a magnificent shot. What kind of time setting did you use?

Thank you Shakti. This was a 30 second exposure taken in near darkness. The first light of dawn was just a glimmer on the horizon behind me.

You are really showing the Cornish coast off beautifully Adrian

Thank you Poppy!

Beautiful!! I love the effects from the long exposure! (just a tiny bit pity the light wasn’t on in the lighthouse….)
Have a lovely weekend, Adrian!
February 9, 2013 at 8:36 am
Thanks Marie. I was surprised the light wasn’t on. The main light was replaced with LED’s a few years back and I wonder if the main light no longer revolves allowing it to be seen out to sea, but not from shore. I will investigate.
You have a lovely weekend too Marie!

Another lovely shot Adrian. I guess you’re using NDGrads – which type do you use?
February 9, 2013 at 7:28 am
Thanks Mark. I have a set of Hitech 85mm NDGrads 0.6 and 0.9 hard and soft and a full 1.5 that I use with the Cokin P system. I’d like to be using Lee 100mm glass filters but they are so expensive. Just as I tick one thing off the wish list another gets added..
February 9, 2013 at 8:19 am
LOL – I know exactly what you mean about the Lee filters and the wishlist…there is always some other piece of kit to buy or an old piece to upgrade…;0). I use Kood NDs and NDGrads – they are P system as well. I don’t use them as much as I should.
February 9, 2013 at 12:03 pm
When so much can be done in post with your RAW files, in the warm, in front of your PC, I wonder about fiddling and faffing about in the field with ND Grads but when you need those extra stops for a long exposure on a bright day, they’re invaluable of course. I tend to bracket exposures and and use the exposure blending function in Photomatrix if I want to balance an overly bright sky against a much darker foreground so my ND grads don’t get used as much as they might. I should do a test and compare the two methods. Perhaps write a post on the results. My next post, later today, is a picture where I used the exposure blending method.

Thank you Pablo. Really appreciate that.

Stunningly beautiful, Chilly. You’re doing wonderful stuff with the early morning shots. Definitely worth braving the Chilly winds.
February 9, 2013 at 1:15 am
Thank you Gunta. A bit warmer and a gentle breeze as opposed to a gale would be nice but as the weather warms up, the mornings are going to have to be getting ever earlier..
February 9, 2013 at 8:26 am
Wow, what dramatic clouds! Great capture!

An ethereal awakening. I love these glimpses of the sea, Adrian.
February 8, 2013 at 11:26 pm
Thank you Karen. When I look at this picture, I get a sense of standing still as time goes into overdrive.. Something about it..
February 8, 2013 at 11:56 pm
some movement in both sea and clouds
February 8, 2013 at 11:22 pm
With the gale blowing it was a very dynamic scene..
