For Sue..
My favourite Aunt died this morning. I loved her dearly and thankfully she was medicated with morphine and died peacefully. She’d been suffering from motor neurone disease for some time and was paralysed from the neck down, unable to swallow and barely able to see whilst remaining fully alert and aware so when I say suffering, I really mean it. My gran died from MND some years before and it seemed so cruel that Aunt Sue should be diagnosed also.
Sue was a nurse and had devoted her life to caring for others
I took this photograph yesterday evening so this would have been Aunt Sue’s last sunset. I truly wish she’d been there with me to enjoy a Cornish sunset one last time..

A memorable and magnificent sunset at the hour of your loss Adrian. It must have brought solace to your heart. My grandmother passed away during this trip when I was home. That night we witnessed the most glorious night sky and the moon seemed to shine extra bright. It helped somehow. My deepest condolences. Hugs, Sharon

We will all have a last sunset. My experience of the dying is that they are rarely able to see them. To be able to see one’s last sunset would be a good death. Your sunset is a good one, and such a sunset would be a good way to go out.
February 11, 2013 at 4:21 am
It would indeed. Thank you.

My condolences. I don’t know if you’ve seen the move What Dreams May Come, but a couple dies and their heaven is built from their favorite painting that was hanging in their house. Maybe your aunt is walking without time in a scene like this photograph, or maybe you can just imagine her there.

Dear Chillbrook, A lovely tribute and a beautiful sunset. I am so sorry to learn of your loss. Your Aunt sounds a remarkably courageous woman. Knowing how wonderful you are, I’ve no doubt that she equally cherished you.
My husband and I are making some transitions this year so my presence here will be less consistent than last. But please know that you are often on my mind and I will pop in and catch up with you. Love, Viv
February 10, 2013 at 7:30 am
Thank you so much for your very kind words Viv. On several occassions in the last few weeks I thought I’d email you to say I was thinking of you but I didn’t want to intrude. I will look forward to those moments when you are able to catch up and likewise, you will be in my thoughts often. Take care Viv.

In a way though, I think it is so lovely to have such an uplifting last ‘ image memory’ that you took unknowingly to bring to mind your favourite Aunt anytime you need or want it .
And truly I believe that she can see all the sunsets she ever wanted to see now
