Beach..

This photograph was taken at low tide on the beach at Constantine Bay.  What drew me to the picture was the texture of the rock being mirrored, almost perfectly it seemed, by the ocean beyond.

  1. Different eyes, different perspective. I a saw the dark clouds being mirrored by the rocks and the lighter sky by the sea. 🍀

  3. This is a cracking image Adrian. I love the muted colours, the tide-pools in the mid-ground and the panoramic format. Excellent.

  9. Quite different from a lot of your work, Adrian, But I love the almost monochrome tone. And yes, for me too the mirroring is between the sky and the rocks – a very attractive balance.

    • Thank you Andy. I deliberately bleached out the colour. It’s something I’ve done a few times, it does seem to work very well with beach shots for some reason. Hoping to get a few more like it tomorrow. With promise of a break, of sorts, in the weather, I’ve found a track that leads down to Perranporth beach but well away from the usual access points. Should be nice. I love the beach in winter.

      • It works so well, Adrian. Sorry that another deluge is heading your way. When will it end!?

        January 29, 2014 at 11:17 pm

      • It’s just soul destroying and the monthly forecast suggests this will be the pattern for February as well. Might be a bit brighter your side of the country though apparently.

      • We are lucky where we live – very often the worst of the weather has blown itself out by the time it reaches us.

        January 30, 2014 at 9:18 am

      • The western reaches certainly bear the brunt of it. I was in Perranporth this morning and the shop owners on the front were busy sandbagging, ready for the next gale and high tide due in the morning. I think I might go and take a look.. 7.5m at 5.10am It’d be an early start..

  10. Beautiful, Adrian…I love the pewter-colored clouds and water…and the hint of color in the beach sand…so very nice.

  12. Very much like the monochrome. It gives the scene an abstract look. Terrific!

  19. I too like the semi de-saturated look – it suits beaches in winter! In this particular case I also like the panoramic aspect ratio you’ve chosen which enhances the feeling of space and solitude..

Contemplating the closeness to all the elements here ChillB is lovely … tilted rocks, sand islands, and the running tidal courses …a scene that is unique each time you return . Such muted soft lighting you’ve achieved here is so serene – I imagine though not likely to be experienced in the next few days ;-)

    • Thank you Poppy. This was taken the day we visited Perranporth at the crack of dawn. I’m sure you remember. I didn’t feel I got any decent pictures that morning but I revisited the archive the other night and found with a slightly different approach to processing the pictures, there were actually some quite nice ones. :-)

I wasn’t going to say ;-) but of course I do …. I must try a different approach to processing too me thinks Lol

  23. Beauty as far as the eye can see…wonderful.

    • Thanks Randall. Constantine Bay is a beautiful place to visit. It’s very popular with surfers as the waves are excellent with an offshore breeze. I just love the vast expanse of sand, left at low tide. I’ve been meaning to look out for a low tide and sunset to coincide but we’ve not had too many decent sunsets lately with the weather being so wet. It’ll happen at some point I’m sure. ;-)
