And now for something completely different..
Sometimes it’s just fun to see where things can go with a photograph. This is one of my most sucessful images turned into a jigsaw then blown apart using the 3D tools available within Photoshop to reveal the gem of the photograph, within a globe, and with a photograph of the Milky Way I took behind. I had to photograph my own hand and then isolate it to create the illusion of the hand holding the globe. Why, well why not? For those curious, this is the engine house used in the opening titles to Poldark.

Very Creative! Nice job. I have never worked with the 3D capabilities in PS. Might have to give it a try sometime.

I like to keep ’em guessing Gunta. Glad you enjoyed this. It was a bit of fun but perhaps, I might do a series. It’s nice to stretch one’d creativity and imagination sometimes. The imagination bit can get a bit rusty as we get older I’ve found.

Hours and hours of work I suspect behind this extraordinary image. Brilliant, Adrian, reminds me of the work of Magritte. This, I am sure, will do very well in major exhibitions.

Thank you so much Andy. The beauty of layers within Photoshop. It took a fair bit of trial and error I mush admit. Moving the pieces of the jigsaw in 3d space which of course is still 2d was the hardest bit but it’s certainly a way of overcoming that need to create three dimensions within a two dimension medium. I think I might play with a few more of my landscapes and see what I come up with. If my current C&C panel is rejected again, this might be an alternative way to go. :-)

Thank you very much Karen. It was fun to take an image I know so well and then to just blow it apart. I always had the sense that I needed space behind the image and having a photograph of the Milky Way in my files was useful. I have to say though, it took me a hell of a time to find it. :-/ :-)

This is quite amazing…there are so many layers to it, it seems it must have taken forever to do, but I suspect you have a mind that can keep a lot of things active, and see the interrelationships among them. It’s good to shake things up, isn’t it?

It is indeed Lynn! Thank you! This technique allows the opportunity to merge several layers and give the imagination a bit of a free reign. It took a little while to get the hang of moving the pieces of the jigsaw but once I got the hang of that, it wasn’t so difficult. I’m quite familiar with using layers and masks, I just needed to find a way to not just adjust areas of a photo using a mask but to reveal another image beneath a layer in an interesting way. It’s fun to do, I’m just limited by my imagination. I’m looking forward to working with a few other images. :)

Thank you Jane. It was fun to explore something different and exercise my imagination that was so much more refined when I was 8. I’m now 53 and would really like to get my 8 year old imagination to surface every now and then. We should all be doing it. I think it’s such a shame we’re trained as we grow up to shut that down, we have to get serious. I’ve adult skills now that can perhaps help explore some of my much more uncomplicated imaginings.

It was fun just exploring the tools available in Photoshop that allow you to take several pieces of work, allowing you to combine them and explode them to create a new result. I think this was three photographs in all. I’m sure one could combine many more. It’d be like disappearing down the rabbit hole in Alice in Wonderland. The only limit is one’s own creativity. We’re lucky to have tools today that I’m sure others would have enjoyed greatly in the past.
