Here’s another photo from my dawn shoot at Godrevy Lighthouse. I’m grateful to Poppy for pointing out that Godrevy Lighthouse was the inspiration for Virginia Woolf’s novel, To The Lighthouse. Despite the 1927 novel centering on the Ramsay family and their visits to their summer home on the Isle of Skye Scotland, there are many similarities to Virginia Woolf’s own life and her family visits to Talland House in St Ives, just across the bay from Godrevy Lighthouse.
Many actual features from St Ives Bay are carried into the story, including the gardens leading down to the sea, the sea itself, and the lighthouse.
In 1998, the Modern Library named To the Lighthouse No. 15 on its list of the 100 best English-language novels of the 20th century. In 2005, the novel was chosen by TIME magazine as one of the one hundred best English-language novels from 1923 to present.
I hope you enjoy the picture…
