Surf but where’s the beach..?
Because of the nature of Porthleven Harbour, great surf is created at the entrance to the harbour just as it would be if the swell were coming up on a beach. This is a favourite spot for local surfers who enter the water at the edge of the harbour. In the picture below, if you look very carefully, one guy can be seen with his board on the steps of what I think might be the old lifeboat station. They then paddle out to enjoy some exceptional surf and great wave riding, even on a freezing cold March day like today..

Great photos, Adrian. I can only imagine how cold it must be in that icy ocean. Very brave guys out there in the surf. Hope you wrapped up well. :)

We were warm thank you Sylvia but we had to wrap up. These guys are hardy to say the least. They must really love their sport. :-)

Thanks Poppy. I only had my 70mm lens and they were quite a way off but being able to crop so closely, the photos came out quite well. I’ve a few more pictures from Praa sands that I’ll post in due course. :-)

Brrr….. the wind at my beaches has been bone chilling lately. Not encouraging me to stay very long. Haven’t seen any surfers braving the cold out here. Great shots you got there!
