St Ives Harbour..
With just a day before the Royal Cornwall Show opens where this year, in the West Country Arts and Crafts Marquee, I have my own stand, my house looks more like a warehouse. With bubble wrapped framed prints, mounted prints in cellophane bags and boxes of cards and other sundries spread about finding somewhere to sit has become a pressing issue. Having been so very organised, as the opening day approaches, it all feels a bit chaotic with a ton of things to think about and others things yet to do. It’ll all come together I’m sure.
Taking a break, I’m still working through the photographs I took whilst Poppy was here. I think in my last post I mentioned there’d be more from St Ives and I think this picture gives you a sense of that very special light I talked about. Here it can be seen, working its magic on an overcast shot of the harbour at low tide. Click on the image for a clearer sharper view. :-)

Those clouds look about ready to drown everything in a torrent. Wishing you great good luck with the Show.

Thank you Gunta. We managed to dodge the showers. Not sure we’ll be able to do that at the show but we’re every hopeful! :-)

For the 19 years I lived in Cornwall I never actually went to the Royal Cornwall Show and I am not sure if I am missing something because nearly everybody else I I know has been. I like your shot especially the blue in the sky. Hope you have a good time at RCS.

Thanks Ben. Looking round today at people setting up etc, I think it’ll be a good show. Always very busy whatever the weather but hopefully the sun will come out. The show, and the rest of Cornwall, has suffered terribly with the weather for the last five years so we all deserve a break. Ever optimistic :-)

Good luck and . . . that’s a heck of a tide.
Perhaps a timelapse . . . ?
By the way, the comment issue is third party cookies.
Even after I allow WordPress and cornwallphotographic, I still can’t post a comment unless I allow all third party cookies.
I suspect the “other” 3rd party cookies have to do with advertising, tracking, or some other site that wants to set a cookie.
I’m ambivalent about this as I don’t appear to have control over what is being tracked. I’ll have to decide what I ultimately want to do about this. By the way, some of it is under your control. Some sites allow me to comment by just entering name and e-mails. Some just need me to be logged into WordPress (or twitter, or facebook). Yours and a number of others want all the above and to set cookies, as well.
June 3, 2014 at 9:15 pm
Thank you Emilio. The tide is routinely over 5 metres. I’ve checked my settings and un-checked the commentators need to be logged in etc to comment. That was the only setting I could find that might affect cookies left.

Testing . . . testing . . .
June 5, 2014 at 4:57 pm
Did not work.
June 5, 2014 at 5:34 pm
OK, it did work, but it’s in moderation. I’m guessing that is one of the functions of the cookies.
Also, you should know that someone without a WordPress, Twitter, or Facebook account cannot comment on your blog.
On the regular wordpress account (like mine), I allow people who do not have accounts to leave a comment as long as they enter a valid e-mail address and name.
The reason I do that is that I know people who are not on any of those three social media sites, and this way they can enter a comment with just their names and e-mail.
You might be missing out on some readers interacting with the site. You can test this out using an incognito window (or equivalent), and trying to leave a comment with an e-mail different than what you use to log into your blog.
June 5, 2014 at 5:39 pm
Hi Emilio, Thanks for your comments and advice. I’ve checked the setting that allows people who are not logged in to comment now.

There is something very special about the landscape in Cornwall – and you capture it so beautifully. Another gorgeous image where the contrast between the sunlit harbour and the dark clouds is amazing. Good luck at the Royal Cornwall Show, Adrian.

Hope the show went well (fingers crossed). Was it outside? As you probably know, I’ve been showing outside for years and have seen everything that can possibly go wrong (and right). Looking forward to all the details. Love the picture too.. John
